What to pack for shoulder season

Shoulder season in the north rewards layers and a waterproof shell. Bring a warm mid-layer, a hat you actually like, and gloves you can still tie your boots with. Binoculars are surprisingly useful — sea eagles, distant peaks, boats carving silver lines. If you plan to film or share clips, remember spare batteries; cold air drains them faster than you expect.
